Calibrated indoor run is way less than treadmil...

Hi, silly question. When I reset calibration on my Apple Watch it matches the treadmill speed perfectly. Usually using the Nike+ App on my phone matches the treadmill pretty closely as well. After my Apple Watch calibrates with an outdoor run (which is usually longer and farther than I go on the treadmill) the indoor runs that the Apple Watch tracks (using the default Apple fitness app on it) are way off, sometimes as much as a 0.25 out of 2 miles. Has anyone else experienced something like that? Does anyone know of a fix? Or should I not trust the treadmills distance? Thank you!

Hi

For indoor running workouts on a treadmill, Apple Watch relies on data from the built-in accelerometer.

Calibration teaches your Apple Watch how your arm movements relate to your stride lengths at different speeds when you are walking and/or running. It does this by comparing data from the accelerometer with GPS / Location Services data.

It may help to check that, when calibrating your Apple Watch, you are allowing the arm on you are wearing your watch to swing naturally - and to swing your arm in the same way when subsequently running on the treadmill.

Also keep in mind that, when estimating distances for indoor runs, Apple Watch cannot recognise or adjust for inclines or declines on a treadmill.
