talk to text and siri not working

I spent over an hour in a chat with apple support trying to determine why both my first generation sport watch and my daughters 1st gen sport watch would not allow talk to text or siri either with Hey siri or pushing the crown button. If we push the crown button siri asks what she can do but can't hear us.

If it was just one watch Id suspect a microphone issue but is it both watches. My sons watch works perfect - same generation watch and same generation phone and all IOSs are updates the same.

seriously what is going on?

We have unpaired, repaired, restarted, reset, etc. Nothing seems to work. I don't believe it can be a hardware issue since it is both watches.

On a side note - the watches are connected to their phones but if we open bluetooth on the watch it just says 'searching' for hours it says searching. Like I said the watches are connected and receiving texts and data from the phones.

hope someone can help.

Hi

Going to Settings > Bluetooth on your Apple Watch is not how to check the connection with the paired iPhone. It is instead how you would connect your Apple Watch to compatible Bluetooth accessories, such as headphones. Going to that settings page instructs your Apple Watch to start searching for any Bluetooth devices that have been placed into discovery / pairing mode, so it is normal for it to report "Searching".

To check the Bluetooth connection with your iPhone, instead open Control Centre:

In respect of the issue with Siri, the following steps may help (check after each):

  • On your iPhone:
    • Go to: Settings > Siri & Search - check the all desired settings are enabled.
    • Go to: Settings > General > Restrictions - check that the restriction for Siri & Dictation is not enabled.
    • Go to: Settings > General > Keyboard - check that Enable Dictation is turned on.

  • On your Apple Watch:
    • When viewing the time on your watch, go to the Home screen by pressing the Digital Crown (round button) once.
    • Go to: Settings (cog icon) > General > Siri > check that Hey Siri is turned on.

  • If you are using the "Hey Siri" command, check that you are using the feature correctly:
    • To use Hey Siri on Apple Watch, the display must be awake.
    • Wake the screen of your watch (by tapping it or by raising your wrist) and then say "Hey Siri".
    • More information, including under Get help:

  • Remove any protective case or film that you may be using on your watch if it is blocking the microphone port (the lower of the two ports on the opposite side to the buttons):

  • If the issue persists, next try unpairing and re-pairing your watch:

If the issue then still persists, I suggest that you contact Apple Support (mail-in service may be available, if required), make a Genius Bar reservation or visit an Apple Authorised Service Provider for assistance:
