Problems with Photo Stream in iCloud.exe on PC

For quite some time (maybe half a year now) I've been having problems with Photo Stream not working properly in iCloud on my Windows 7 computer. It was working fine before, but I guess they broke something and there have been problems ever since.

Basically, the photos I take on my iPhone do not get downloaded (pushed?) to my PC. The photos do get uploaded to Apple severs since they do appear in the "My Photo Stream" folder in Albums in the Photos app on the iPhone and on my iPad. They just don't get sent/downloaded to my PC.

To temporarily solve this, I have to sign out of the iCloud program on my PC and then sign-in again. When I do that, I have to again configure the iCloud settings to my liking (untick Cloud Drive and Mail, Contacts, Calendars, Tasks) and tick Photos -> My Photo Stream and set the Download and Upload paths. I also untick iCloud Photo Library since I don't need anything else except Photo Stream to work.

When I click Apply, all photos from Photo Stream will get downloaded to my PC. Photo Stream will also work normally, but only for a day or so, and then it will stop working again. I also noticed that very often, the last photo taken will not be sent/downloaded to my PC, so I tend to take one extra photo of the ground every time after the last photo I need, just so I can be sure it will be sent to my PC.

Sometimes just clicking on "Open iCloud Settings" in the tray bar will cause the photo download to start, but that's rare. Usually the only thing that works is the Sign-out / Sign-in method. Very often though, the sign-out process itself is unsuccessful since it somehow stalls. The progress circle spins indefinitely and I have to use the Task Manager to kill the iCloud.exe process or I try to Repair the program via the Uninstall option. Typically I have to reboot the PC to get iCloud to come out of the sign-out loop and allow me to sign-in again.

Also, it seems that the last iCloud update (with the yellow GUI) does not work correctly with Windows Classic themes anymore. The checkboxes are not drawn correctly if only a few options in the Options tree are selected. If all options are selected the tick should be drawn. If no options are selected, the tick box should be empty. If just some options are selected, the tick box should be filled with a color. But on Windows Classic themes, the tick box is drawn as empty even if some options are selected. This is a bug. If I change the theme to Windows Basic or Aero, GUI drawing works correctly.

Anyway, extremely annoying stuff and it's literally killig me.
