I can't add a new Google account in Yosemite 10...

I am trying to add a Google account via Internet Accounts in System Preferences, but all I get is this window spinning forever and ever. Have tried many times.

Have also tried via Mail but same problem. I understand 10.3.3 supports 2 step verification for Google but I can't get that far.

Any suggestions?

I am having the same issue.  Any attempt to add a new google account results in the image above.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Not only does it do this if I try and set up a new account, but even when I signed in after first installing OS 10.10.3 it told me to check my password on my currently existing account and did the same thing where it would hang. It does it both in system preferences as well as through the mail app.

Hi

The problems with google mail seems to be more general. I am experiencing mails staying stuck in outbox and deleted mails reappearing .

Ive just added an account without any issues.  It hung for a little while but presumed it was my ISP which is slow at this time of the day.

I've exactly the same problem since the recent update. However two google accounts, only does it on one, constantly asking for password, spinning circle when I try to sort it. Can't add a Gmail account.

I have the same problem, some found a solution?

I have the same problem too. I have two google accounts but when I tried to edit either of them, they'd have this problem. I deleted both of them and couldn't add it back.

something seems to have broken with Apple's attempt to support two step verification without needing app specific passwords. seem to be several other threads with people complaining about problems with Google accounts after the update.

try adding your account as "Add Other" instead of Google as a workaround.

Try adding the account directly in Apple Mail > Preferences > Accounts.

Still have problems...

Testing in a new User will quickly tell you if the problem is system wide or if it's your User's folder that contains the problem. (you'll need your password to create the new account)

CREATE A NEW USER

Go to System Preferences --> Create a New User in Accounts. Switch to the New User by logging out/in or use Fast User Switching.

Open Mail and see if you can add account.

I have this exact same problem too.

Update:

1.) I tried creating a new user on my mac and got the exact same problem.

2.) I turned on two-factor authentication for my Google account but still have the problem.

So, no good news here.

Since nothing changed on my computer on Monday morning when this started happening, I suspect that something changed on the Google side.

After you turned on two factor authentication, did you use the new code rather than the password?

In the mean time, until you can get Gmail working you can try these options;

1) Download the demo for Postbox. https://www.postbox-inc.com/

If you can't get your Gmail account setup in Postbox, this indicates an issue with Gmail rather than Mail.

2)  You might like MailTabPro for Gmail $1.99. In Mac App Store (MAS). Nothing to download and easy access to your messages.

So, per the original poster, I don't even get the chance to enter any password because the "Add Account" dialog box freezes with the "Fail Wheel" after you click on the Google account option in the right-hand pane.  (I was just experimenting to see if the two-factor auth changed the interface on the google side in any way.)

I.e, it isn't related to setting up GMail with Mail in particular, it is about setting up your Google account for anything.

1) Test in a new User or the guest User.

If this fails, download and run the combo updater, but you might need to do a reinstall of Yosemite.
