Since update to iOS11.0.2 cannot connect ipad a...

Both ipad mini and iphone 6 are updated to iOS 11.0.2, but can no longer connect the two via bluetooth.  Only through hotspot, which is unnecessary since it is a wifi ipad and only used at home....anyone else???  How do I fix this issue??  Have tried the usual of shutting down and retrying etc.....not very savvy with this stuff, it just always worked previously since purchase.

Not sure what you are attempting to do or exactly what you mean by "connect" but an iPhone will not pair via Bluetooth to a computer (Mac or Windows) or an iPad except for personal hotspot and then only if your cellular plan supports it. See the following for more information. Bluetooth: Why can't I pair my iPhone or iPad with another iOS device or with my computer?

If you are attempting to use Handoff/Continuity or AirDrop, that does involve Bluetooth but the devices are NOT paired; Bluetooth just needs to be on and the devices in range of each other. The following may help with Handoff/Continuity issues: Use Continuity to connect your Mac, iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Apple Watch - Apple Support

Maybe I'm incorrect about how they communicate....I used to get all messages on my ipad as well as iphone, even answer calls on my ipad, as well as pictures showing up on ipad shortly after being taken with phone....this is no longer happening.

For calls and sms/mms messages, see the following link (it was also referred to in the 2nd paragraph of my first reply; bluetooth is involved but the devices are not paired): Use Continuity to connect your Mac, iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Apple Watch - Apple Support

For photos, one possibility is that you were using iCloud Photo Library (It does not use bluetooth). If so, see iCloud Photo Library - Apple Support

Another possibility is that you were using PhotoStream: iCloud: My Photo Stream overview
