apple watch screen turns off without raise to wait

On this newest Apple Watch update my watch screen turns off without raise to wake! Where the watch screen use to stay on with my screen upright! Is this new or something the watch shouldn't be doing? It's annoying because if I'm using an app and my hand slightly tilts, the screen goes off (without raise to wake on)! :-/

Hi

When waking the screen by raising your wrist (with that setting enabled), the screen should stay awake for a few seconds without further interaction.

The display can also be set to stay awake for up to either 15 or 70 seconds. This applies when the screen is tapped on to wake it or when it is tapped on after being woken by raising your wrist.

To set your preferred wake duration when tapping the screen:

  • On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch (tab) > General > Wake Screen - under On Tap, select Wake for 15 or 70 Seconds.

Regardless of the setting and how the screen is woken, it is normal for the screen to sleep if you lower your wrist before it is due to sleep automatically. If the display is not remaining awake for as long as it should do, the following steps may help:

Hey

Thanks for your response! I have the latest watch OS realeased.... completely up to date! I don't ever remember my Watch going to sleep with raise to wake off immediately after waking the Watch and lowering my wrist! Use to stay on for the 15 seconds I have it on for before the screen went off!

I am experiencing a similar problem.

After watch os 3.2 update, my watch display turns off at the slightest twist of my wrist. It is the same whether "wake to raise" is on or not. What is the point of setting 15 or 70 seconds when the display turns off with the slightest movement?

This makes my Watch virtually useless when cycling or exercising. It is difficult to view emails or texts and use ApplePay. The dock will not stay active. Some apps will keep the display active but others do not.

I never experienced this behavior or problem before updating

I have been working with AppleCare and sent feedback. I hope Apple comes up with a solution to this problem quickly.

I'd like to add to this.

After update to 3.2 I too started experiencing this.

There is nothing in the documentation on lower to sleep being enabled with raise to wake disabled. Only the addition of theater mode.

Apple support confirmed this and after a few engineers, and days, finally found it was added with theater mode.

I would like an option to disable as with raise to wake off, why have a 15 or 70 second option if you have to keep your wrist in that position.

Try and scan a code from the wallet. Lol. Goes to sleep and you have to tap in an awkward position to keep it awake.

Well.  Apple acknowledges this and since I have apple care, they sent me a replacement in hopes it was os 3.something and not 3.2.

It arrived with 3.1 so now I won't be updating. Till fixed. If ever...

And Johnathan. Thank you for your long winded incorrect answer but this is not how it functioned with raise to wake off before 3.2.

Remember with the first watch os bug where 15 seconds wasn't long enough to load an app and they added the 70 seconds for us that don't like raise to wake. Now the same issue is back. Only on lower to sleep.

Apple should acknowledge this as a bug with a fix or update the documentation to reflect this as a feature.

Steve

It is now impossible to scan a code - I had to use the iPhone to get through the gate  at the airport, because the watch turned dark, as soon as I turned my wrist.

If you now hold your wrist parallel to the reader then tap the watch face it will stay awake for the reader.

This is how apple want us to use our watch now.

Call support and demand a fix.

If you now hold your wrist parallel to the reader then tap the watch face it will stay awake for the reader.

I tried that as well, but it is nearly impossible, because we have to lift the watch off the reader to be able to tap it, then lower it again. It takes just too long, until the watch face stays on long enough. I gave up after three tries. And we cannot tap the watch with the hand of the arm where we are carrying the watch. We have to put down the hand luggage to free the other hand. All this is ridiculous in the crowd at the gate.

BTW, the watch user guide needs fixing too:   https://help.apple.com/watch/

Use a pass. If a notification for a pass appears on Apple Watch, tap the notification to display the pass. You might have to scroll to get to the barcode. Or open Wallet, select the pass, then present the barcode to the scanner.

I am very disappointed with this last update. I am in the healthcare field and very much depended on my watch for my job. Now with only the very slightest movement of my wrist, the screen turns off. I cannot understand why if I set my screen to wake with tap and stay on for 70 seconds it turns off with movement. I was all set to buy the second series but will not waste my money.  I'm hoping APPLE will resolve this issue. Even more frustrating, both apple support phone and in-store had NO knowledge that this even changed with the update.

I am experiencing the same issue

After watch OS 3.2 update, my watch display turns off at the smallest twist of my wrist, most annoying when trying to use QR codes when paying for things, or when using apps for mountain biking. Its now an awful experience.

like RTW916 i agree that "It is the same whether "wake to raise" is on or not. What is the point of setting 15 or 70 seconds when the display turns off with the slightest movement?"
