Audio Book Question

Recently, I've been trying to convert Audio Books from CD to a format that is more iPhone/USB stick friendly, as our car doesn't have a CD player, and we have loads of Audio Books.  I tried stitching each track together in Audacity, as each track is about 6 minutes long each, and with 13 tracks per CD, and 8 CD's in a set, it gets to be a whole lot of work and a pain in general. So, I heard there was an easier way to do it-I tried AudioBook Binder which works fine, apparently. I point it to the CD, and it does the work, and I wind up with an .m4b file, which, I understand, is the preferrred format for Audio Books. However, in the latest version of iTunes, the .m4b file plays fine, is recognized by iTunes, shows up as an Audio Book--no problem there.  But: In Sierra it doesn't work in iTunes: doesn't play, isn't recognized by iTunes and doesn't show up-probably not transferable to iPhone either.  So---here's my question: How do I get iTunes 12 to recognize, play, and to get the darn file to show up?--maybe even get it to sync on iPhone? I've seen a few hints here and there-maybe a few ideas, but nothing definite. the only think I can find relating to Audio Books in iTunes has to do with Audio Books bought from the store--which this isn't

thanks for any help.....
