iMac Turned On By Itself. How???

• Why did my 10-year old iMac, which I never use any more and has been powered off for months, all of a sudden turn on—by itself?

• And what does it mean that the screen is all white with a is flashing icon of a gray folder with a question mark on it?

I do not remember what OS it’s on. Hasn’t been updated for years.

Can anyone shed some light on this? What does it mean? Could I have been hacked? Help!
