Messages not updating on Macbook pro 10.12.6

I recently updated from 10.11.6 to 10.12.6 on my Macbook Pro (late 2015), and it has given me a few hiccups when it comes to Messages.

I am signed into the same icloud account (my only icloud account) on my Macbook Pro and my iPhone 6 (10.0.1), and have text forwarding set up. I also have it set to be reached my at phone # and my email.

Now, when my Macbook is off, and I send texts on my phone, when I turn my Macbook back on, it doesn't update with the texts sent from my phone. Before, a flurry of messages would come in and update to what was missed when it wasn't on. That doesn't happen now.

I have tried various basic steps like logging out of both devices, logging back in, but to no avail.

Anyone know a fix to this issue?
