What do I do when it says invalid sim when I'm setting up a new iPhone

The error containing text about an invalid SIM indicates that your iPhone is locked to a carrier other than the one that you are trying to use a SIM card for. You will need a SIM for the carrier the device is locked to, or find out who that carrier is, ask if they provide unlocking services, and if they do see if you qualify. If not, then return the phone for one that you can use.
