LOGIC PRO 9 applying effects to ONLY ONE TRACK

I have googled and looked all over for this. Whenever I apply an effect to one track on Logic Pro 9 it affects all the tracks I have up. How can I change this?! I'm losing my mind. I have the track highlighted that I want to add an effect to... and then when I apply an effect ( buy clicking the slots on the bottom left .. they then become blue for whatever the effect is )  it still does it over all of my tracks. Say I'm doing an echo effect. I would select the track. Go to the bottom right area and click on the empty boxes... apply it.. and them bam all the tracks are echoing.

Not sure if that is a typo.  You want the left side of the screen.  Bottom of that area.  Left side of that section is the channel strip for that track.  The right side of that section is the output channel and would affect everything.

All that time spent Googling and losing your mind and it never occurred to you that reading the manual could've saved much time and anguish?

It is a short read that provides detailed answers and pictures, chapter 3 in your case but while you're there...read the whole thing.
