Contact names not appearing in Messages after 1...

Hi

I updated to 10.12.4.

My contact's names no longer appear in the Messages app, only the phone numbers.

How do I remedy this loss?

Hi,

You check you Contacts app is syncing properly across all devices.

I have this same problem too. I have a Mac Pro running 10.11.6 and it shows names in Messages, but on my MacBook running 10.12.5 the names have disappeared and only phone numbers show.

Curiously, Messages displays the initials of the sender or their photo (if present) so at some level it knows who the sender is. I have tried restoring contacts and tried resetting the region, but to no avail.

There is one way around this. To change all your numbers from the local to international dialling code, but really what should I do this when it used to work?

Anyone found a remedy for this?

Marcus

Hi,

The issue seems to be that the OS used to check where it was and the info was passed on to Messages in some way.

Messages only uses it in the absence of a number having a Country Code added to the number.

It seems that the function is there in OS X 10.12.4 but not the latest release.

I have read some posts that also suggests it has something to do with how you got the OS to 10.12.5 but I have seen nothing to substantiate that.

As you say, at the present time the only solution is to add th Country Code to all numbers that don't have it.

Hi,

I had been having this problem as well, put on my phone. I turned it off and back on a few times over the last day or so to see if this would jog my phone's memory. It didn't work.

I found a thread that stated to turn off MMS restart the phone and turn the phone back on again. Then once the phone was on again to turn on MMS messages again. It didn't work for me, so then I found this thread.

Following your directions, I went to go add the country code. However, the contacts whose names aren't working in messages, now aren't showing up in my contact list to do that. I can still go into messages and type my friends name in I want to text and it'll pull up all the conversations with her in it but as soon as I select the message, the name converts to a number again. So I know it's still saved in my phone.

It has only done this to some of my contacts, as well. Not sure how to proceed. I'd appreciate any thoughts.
