Difference between iWork and iWork Family

Hello all -

I am considering purchasing iWork 09 (from Amazon or eBay or similar) and notice some are titled "iWork 09" while others are "iWork 09 Family."  What is the difference?  (if any)

Thanks in advance for any thoughts -

Normal iWork is only licensed to be installed on a single computer.  iWork Family can be installed on up to 5.

Beyond that, unless you have a Mac running a version of macOS that cannot run the newest versions of Numbers, Keynote, and Pages, there's no real reason to buy iWork 09 any more. As the Apps are now free for everyone from the Mac App Store.

Save your money. Just get the retail, iWork '09 DVD, and not the Family version. The old iWork licensing servers were taken down by Fall 2013 when the iWork '09 application suite was discontinued by Apple. You will not need a license key, unless you previously installed the trial iWork '09 DVD.

Once you have the iWork '09 DVD installed, apply the Apple iWork Update 9.3 to bring the iWork '09 applications up to their last revisions (circa 12/2012). You will also want the respective application user guides (PDF) from the individual Help menus.

Seek help in the Pages for Mac Support Community.

Pages v5 and v6 applications have less usable features, and their documents must be first exported to Pages 09 format before they can be opened in the older application. Same is true for Numbers, and Keynote. The Pages 6.2, Numbers v4.2, and Keynote 7.2 applications are now free, and do require macOS Sierra.

Thanks for your reply.  I guess I need Family since I want to install iWork on a couple of my computers so I can process all my old AppleWorks files.

Thanks again -

Thanks for the money saving info.  I'm still wanting to process my old AppleWorks files on a couple of my computers (Sierra and El Capitan) so if I can do that with the regular iWork I'll give that a try.

Thanks again -
