iPod Touch Issue

When I plug in my iPod to charge, my iPod touch flashes the Apple logo.  I cannot force it off by holding the home and power button at all in an attempt to restart or even to shut it off.  Now there is not any power left at all.

Does anyone have any ideas?  thank you in advance
