provide Mac apps to cover lost iTunes functions

I understand the arguments for simplifying and dumbing down iTunes- losing app support and iTunesU.  This was a surprisingly dumb thing to do- particularly with no warning.  Certainly somebody at Apple had to realize this.  Please provide replacement Mac app(s) to cover these functions.  I organized iOS app layout in iTunes onto app pages with similar apps- cannot do this anymore without wasting a lot of time dragging little icons across my iPad and iPhone. I had enjoyed exploring new stuff using iTunesU materials (which are really not just podcasts). Apple has not put an iTunesU app on the Mac ( Many of us might actually prefer to review iTunesU material on our Mac and not on our iPad! ). Please provide these services so I can delete iTunes from my computer. 

If this is about some bean counter worried about duplicative downloads or maintaining a web service, please reconsider.  We pay a premium to play in the apple universe because it has supported a broad community of users and interests.  I have seen bean counters kill restaurants fail by saving a few cents on each $40 meal by cutting the quality of service.  If a company does not provide quality products and services, people will not pay a premium for those products and services.

I am really disappointed by the way Apple has handled this..  Seems a little MicroSoft-ian: "We are the big company, and we have decided that you are no longer interested in something we provide, so we are saving money by eliminating it- so we can wait until someone else re-develops it and we can buy it from them to sell to you".
