Payment method changed without my consent

Got an email from Apple saying that 2 days prior I had changed my payment method. I HAD NOT. So I went in to my account to check it and sure enough, the number from my new debit card was there. I did not put it there. Is it possible that MONTHS later my BANK could've changed that somehow, or am I at risk of being hacked? Kind of freaked out....Thanks.

Please refer to this excerpt from Automatically updated payment information in Change or remove your Apple ID payment information - Apple Support:

"If you see iTunes charges on a new credit card, your card issuer might have automatically updated your information for you. "

That may explain what happened.
