Inverted "water damage" trackpad

So I always keep my 13" Macbook pro not only in a case but also in a sleeve whenever transporting it (it costed quite a bit so I've been SUPER careful with it). I was walking home, and had my side bag open so the tops of my books/sleeve got a bit damp from some rain, but it wasn't soaked by any means.
I tried using my macbook that night (hadn't touched it since I walked home in the rain) and the trackpad seemed to be acting a bit funky. (I would scroll up it would scroll down, I go left, it went right, etc.)

I took it into Apple immediately and they took it to the back, and said within 10 minutes it was "severe" water damage. I explained I've been always super careful, hence why it still looks perfect (no scuffs, nothing), so water damage is HIGHLY unlikely. He just kept saying it's not covered, its water damage, everytime I tried to tell him it was impossible. Finally he told me it was $750 to repair the less than 2 year old Macbook that looks brand new. All over an inverted trackpad.

Now I'm not looking to drop $750 because I just paid shy of $3k for it less than 2 years ago, so can anyone offer some knowledge on how to fix the trackpad and possible this mysterious "severe water damage".
