I have a 2010 macbook. I want to take the drive...

So I have a 2010 Macbook that died but the hard drive is still good. I want to use it as an external drive. Will a dock work for this purpose or do I have to buy an enclosure instead. The dock just seems very easy. I just want to use the drive as an external drive.
