Phantom mac notifications

Phantom notifications slide in to the top corner of my screen but then disappear. No sound. No content as far as I can tell though it's hard to tell because they're gone before you can properly react to them.

Has anyone got any experience with this? If so, I would be immensely grateful for any help.

It's extremely irritating and distracting as it happens every couple of minutes.

Please review macOS Sierra: Use Notification Center. The article talks about both see:

Notice the part beside 'Today' tab there is a 'Notifications' tab or as Apple in the article calls it 'missed notifications'.

Later in article it explains:

See missed notifications

In Notification Center, click Notifications, then do any of the following:

  • Get details: Click a notification to see the item in the associated app. For example, click a Mail notification to see the email in Mail. When you open an item, it’s removed from Notifications view.
  • Remove notifications: For a day, click the Clear button . For an individual notification, move the pointer over it, then click the button.
