MBP Log in problems with touch ID

Brand new MBP. model # A1707.

Initial set up OK.  Touch ID set up and working initially. Password also set.

Almost immediately couldn't type URL's. One letter would come up and no further progress.

Locked out of machine. No access to telephone support from Apple. Remote Pacific Island.

Any suggestions appreciated
