MacBook (2015) intermittent "Siri Audio Problem"

I have a MacBook (2015) on macOS Sierra. I have an intermittent issue with Siri. When I try to launch Siri, the window will appear, the "Siri Listening" tone will play, and the window will show "What Can I Help You With?" but with a microphone icon rather than the "Siri active" animation. This is followed by a random stalling message "Just a moment..." or "Hmmm..." and finally "Siri Audio Problem␤Siri was unable to hear you. Please check that your microphone is connected and selected in Siri Mic input."

Of course, this is all configured correctly.

I can also open the audio panel in System Preferences and the microphone level indicator moves as I make sound - the mic is working perfectly.

The problem goes away with a reboot.

Any suggestions?

Hello floccinaucinihilipilification,

After reviewing your post, it sounds like Siri is not able to hear you. It looks like you have already done some troubleshooting. I would recommend you read this article and use it to help troubleshoot the issue.
