does MacBook support eGPU?

I just bought a MacBook (just MacBook, not Pro). Since I will work on programming (I just start my education program), I may add an eGPU for parallel programming in the future.

 

So my question is how does eGPU work on MacBook? Can it charge MacBook while transferring data? I know its port is USB C not thunderbolt 3, how does it work?

The external GPU sits in an external Thunderbolt 3 enclosure. I believe you will find one at OWC. Thunderbolt 3 expansion enclosures plus the eGPU are pretty expensive.

 

Actually, the MacBook port is both Thunderbolt 3 and USB-C. The external chassis would need to have a port the can also pass power or the chassis must contain a power supply that also powers the computer.
