Just a few thoughts on latest MacBook Pros

TOUCH BAR ;

Surplus to requirement.  Most of the icons that dynamically appear with a few of the Apple programs are no more than repeats of icons already on the screen.  Seems like just another layer of complexity and duplication.   I was just fine with the old top row of keys from “esc” to the power button.

SCREEN ;

A bit brighter but not really any better than 2014 / 2015 MacBook Pros.

SPEAKERS ;

No better than on my 2015 MacBook Pro.

BATTERY LIFE ;

“Up to 10 hours battery life” ?

I was getting typically 5-6 hours with my 2015 MBP just typing emails, reading emails and general web browsing.   About 4 hours watching youtube videos.   Now it seems from the reviews to be down to just 3 HOURS, and that’s not doing anything processor intensive.

POWER CONNECTOR ;

In my opinion the removal of the Magsafe connector is a major blunder.   To me it was one of the major advantages of MacBooks over Windows laptops.  With the current latest connector I would be highly nervous of accidentally dragging the MBP off a table on to the floor or simply breaking the connector.

TOUCH PAD ;

Unnecessarily large.  It’s not a graphics pad with pen included (that would be useful)   So why does it have to be so large ?   The old size was fine.

THINNESS ;

Apple seem to be obsessed with thinness.  A laptop is a portable computer.  What really counts is lightness, not thinness and excessive thinness makes cooling more difficult and complicated.

PRICE ;

A top of the range (512Mb SSD) MBP in 2015 about £2000.   Now about £2700.   35% increase in two years or 16.2% a year.   Remind me what current inflation is.

This is just my opinion but what MacBook users really wanted / needed was -

1.  The thermal throttling problem sorting out (the excessive heat and fans going crazy when using processor intensive apps)

2.  Longer battery life when using processor intensive apps.

3.  The inclusion of BOTH USB3 AND USB-C ports as a crossover from one to the other. (Now those with USB3 devices have to use silly, inconvenient and unnecessary adaptors)

4.  Better sound quality (esp. bass) and volume from the speakers.  (This is a universal problem with laptops)

Do Apple actually listen to their customers?  (I have to wonder)

Hi,

Yes, Apple may listen to people if enough people tell Apple what they want: https://www.apple.com/feedback/macbookpro.html

Thanks.

I've sent them feedback.

However I think it will take several thousand more messages from people who agree with me to get Apple to do anything.

You never know. I suspect some low level person actually reads all of them, then passes "up" whatever they think is good. It may be that if an idea is good enough, it only takes a few....

Apple is not here so posting product feedback here does nothing. Post product feedback here: https://www.apple.com/feedback/

Apple also does not accept new technology ideas or suggestions for product improvements: Legal - Unsolicited Idea Submission Policy - Apple
