iOS Wireless Keyboard issue?

Greetings

I want to see if anyone here can replicate my issue.

I have a iPad Air 2, running iOS 11.  Whenever I turn my Bluetooth on and connect my iPad to my Apple Wireless Keyboard (AA Battery), the tablet discovers and connects to the keyboard, it even allows me to change the brightness, microphone level, BUT whenever I try to enter a key it doesn’t recognize it.  This becomes frustrating because it connects, adjusts these system functions, but refuses to input the numbers or text.  I need to do a complete shut down of the iPad, then it will input all keys. 

Anyone else have this issue?
