Snow Leopard calendar in iCloud?
I'm running Snow Leopard (MacOS X 10.6.8) on a MacBook Pro (4GB RAM, 2.53GHz Core 2) and for a variety of reasons CANNOT currently update to Mountain Lion.
I've read multiple sources online saying I can sync my current version of iCal (4.0.4) with iCloud as follows:
1) create a CalDAV account in iCal with my iCloud username & password
2) set the server path to "pXX-caldav.ical.com" where "pXX" comes from the URL for sharing a calendar
3) set port to 443 and activate "Use SSL"
Supposedly, restarting iCal will then update the calendar in iCloud... but despite restarting iCal and/or my MacBook Pro several times, nothing is updating on the iCloud side. All the events synced earlier via MobileMe are present but all I see for 2013 are birthdays I'd set up as repeating annually back in the old MobileMe days. (Although it's not specified in any of the instructions I've found, "Refresh Calendars" in iCal is set to "push")
I've checked to be sure I'm using the right "p number" for the server via both Safari's "Activity" menu and by looking at the URLs for sharing any calendars in iCloud and they all match up; I specify port 443 and have "Use SSL" checked; my login info is correct... etc. I've checked the settings repeatedly and read the instructions on how to set up this sharing from multiple sources (Mac OS X Hints, eggfreckles.net, CNET, MacRumors, and others) and so far, no joy. Does anyone have any suggestions/ideas? (PLEASE remember that the "simple" solution of upgrading from Snow Leopard is, for a variety of reasons, NOT a possibility for the time being!)
Thanks in advance -
Several people have posted methods for syncing calendars to iCloud using Snow Leopard, including this one which may well be the same as yours. I've never heard of anyone actually getting it to work. This doesn't mean someone hasn't, but basically this is an unsupported hack and even if you do get it to work, that's no guarantee it won't stop working at some point.
Buy a copy of Busycal to sync your Mac with iCloud calendars on Snow Leopard. If you want Contact sync as well buy a copy of Soho Organizer instead.
There are free trials of both, test before purchasing.
Edit: Busycal is no longer compatible with Snow Leopard, Soho is compatible.
Sorry, BusyCal 1 which would do this with Snow Leopard is no longer available to purchase, and BusyCal 2 requires Mountain Lion. (It's a pity - it's an elegant solution which works a treat.)
Soho Organizer can sync Calendars and Contacts with iCloud on Leopard, Snow Leopard and Lion. A single user licence (multiple machines allowed) is $99.99.
.Fruux syncs Calendars, Tasks and Contacts between a wide variety of devices (not using the iCloud server) including Snow Leopard and above, Windows Outlook and Thunderbird, Linux Thunderbird, and iOS and Android devices - see their compatibility chart (click the blue 'i' for a caveat about Snow Leopard). It's free for one user, two shares, two devices; above that pricing starts at $20 per month.
(I have no connection with these firms and have not tried their products, though both have had good reports.)

Yeah, I edited my post to reflect that, and it is a shame.

Roger, I have just gotten that MacOS X Hints method to work, in case anyone is still interested. I followed the directions explicitly, and when I re-launched iCal, my iCloud calendars were there. Syncing works, and it is bi-directional.
I'm running 10.6.8 with iCal version 4.0.4 (1395.7).
I wrote that in June - I think I may have been thinking of the Contacts hack which several people had posted but whidh I've certainly never seen reports of actually working. The calendar hack can work, though there have been reports of flakiness.
Another iCloud issue: I can't find a way to change the calendar color on icloud.com, and web searches don't seem to turn up what I need. Do you know how?
I don't think this is possible, but you should start your own thread in the iCloud on iCloud.com forum rather than tacking on to a a completely unrelated thread, you would be more likely to get an authoritative answer.
That's a good point, I’ll do that at some time in the future. Thanks!
For crying out loud, this is my pet peeve, nobody is reading the original post. BSL59 posted that he has already gotten the iCloud calendars to show up in Snow Leopard. What isn't working is that iCal events are not being synced back up to iCloud. One poster (S. Edwin Collins) indicated that his connection works 'bi-directionally'...
I am having the same problem as BSL59. I can see the iCloud calendar events just fine but when i make an entry on my mac using iCal it doesn't get pushed to the cloud where my iphone/ipad/etc can see it.
I know this post is old, but if Edwin might confirm whether his (snow leopard) iCal posts get pushed to the iCloud calendar that would be great. I've been trying to figure it out for a while...
Thanks,
sjryan
What method are you using to connect an unsupported operating system to iCloud?
I'm using Snow Leopard 10.6.8 (same as original poster) which I'm only running because Apple doesn't support my intel iMac on anything later. Another pet peeve. I have some small minority of intel imac's that apple choose to exclude from the upgrade path... Using the configuation method mentioned by Roger, I am able to read iCloud calendars but there's no way I can figure out to post things on my local calendar to the iCloud calendar.
It's the same problem the original poster had and everybody is telling him how to read iCloud calendars. Edwin mentioned that he got it to work in both directions but only mentions the MacOsX hints method... which doesn't post/publish/push/sync iCal entries made on the local mac up to the iCloud calendar in my experience.

You can probably use Lion and possibly Mavericks.
