Will Time Machine work on APFS with an MBR exte...
I have an external Seagate Backup Plus 2TB drive for which I use two partitions to back up Time Machine with photos and videos. The Time Machine partition is formatted MacOS Journaled (HFS+), while my videos and photos are backed up to an exFAT format. I have chosen MBR over GPT because my ps4 and Xbox One can read the exFAT partition without issues.
I'm not a High Sierra beta user but I understand that once I upgrade this fall, my MackBook Pro will convert from HFS+ to APFS. Will this affect my Time Machine partition when I back up? I'd like to think that if my drive was GPT the process would be smooth but I have concerns over APFS support with MBR. The last thing I want is to corrupt my exFAT partition.
Has any beta user experienced this?
Thanks in advance
No one can discuss High Sierra in ASC. You will just have to wait until it's released.
I will be very surprised if it doesn't.
From this official Apple news release:
macOS High Sierra advances storage, video and graphics - Apple
the statement for APFS is:
"Apple File System (APFS) features enhanced performance, security and reliability of data and provides a foundation for future storage innovations. An advanced architecture optimized for today’s massive storage technologies, APFS makes common operations such as copying files and directories instantaneous, helps protect data from power outages and system crashes and keeps files safe and secure with native encryption. macOS High Sierra also maintains complete read-and-write compatibility with previously formatted HFS drives and data and is designed to accommodate future advancements in storage technology."
So external drives "should" still be compatible. It would be kind of dumb if it wasn't.

FWIW, APFS has nothing to do with exFAT partitions and there is no reason APFS would affect them.
Apparently tough luck
