I have a problem with my Late 2015, Retina 15" MacBook Pro. In certain situations, the computer will refuse to wake up from sleep. I am using an Acer CB281HK Monitor connected with Mini DisplayPort through the thunderbolt connection on the side. When this happens, the laptop lid is shut, both a mouse and keyboard are connected through USB, and the charging cable is plugged in. This is the sequence of events that occurs:

1. I press a key on the USB keyboard, or click the mouse

2. No image will be displayed, only a black screen. No amount of waiting makes this go away

3. I'll try to unplug the monitor and open the lid to see if it will wake up

4. The keyboard backlight will sometimes light up, and the caps lock key light is functional, but keypresses do nothing

5. If I use the trackpad, I only get the beachball of death.

6. From here my only option is to hold down the power button and hard-reset the computer.

What's even more strange is that this problem goes away if I simply open the laptop lid and start typing my password before closing it. When I do that, there is no issue.

The few times I have been able to go to the console and check out the errors, I saw two things of interest. One was a message that the GPU driver was hung (5 seconds of inactivity). Another one had something to do with windowServer.

Any help would be appreciated.
