Do I truly have to re

I am sorry if this is being asked a million times.   I manage 5 different devices for the family, all with different apps.   It was extremely easy to do in the old version of iTunes so I'm trying to figure out how I am to do it going forward. 

Do I have to go into each device now and manually re-download every app that currently is on the iPad?  Or when I updated, did it keep the version that was there?   I don't have a list I keep of which device has which app.  I always just added them on a case by case basis from iTunes.   I just honestly am unclear of the process.  I'm trying not to complain but just figure out how to move forward.

If I re-download everything, will iTunes then show me the true amount of storage available on my device?  For example currently, when I click on one of the devices in iTunes 12.7 it doesn't show the usage at the bottom with apps.  For example, one iPad says there is 20GB of space available when you actually go the iPad, it says 4GB of space available.  I really need iTunes to show me the actual storage available so I know how many tv shows and movies can be loaded for the family.

Also, do you know if there is a way I can see in the App store how large an app is without having to go to the specific page of the app and scroll to the bottom?   I am currently looking on my iPhone at the apps not on the device and I always like to know how large an app is before I chose if it's worth downloading.  Also, does anyone know a way to sort what you are looking at?   I have no idea what the current sort order is.
