iCloud data wiped

Today my calendar, reminders and notes all went missing.

In Apples Calendar app it said I didn't have access to the calendar and to add it in privacy settings but there was no option.

I checked iCloud settings and everything was set to sync. I tried turning Calendar off and on, no change.

Also said I hadn't backed up in 10 days which I know isn't true.

I signed out of iCloud and received an email saying Find my iPhone had been disabled.

Signed back in but still no Calendar, Reminders or Notes at all, all blank.

This is a a bad design if iOS relies completely on sync with iCloud, a local copy should always be present.

So next I powered of the phone and restarted it. Everything had to sync again and I think I got all my data back.

But this is a serious issue, thus my report. If iCloud can wipe all these things off your phone it can render it unusable.

Also iCloud was backed up 24 hours ago not 10 days as I was notified.

That is what you would think yet it still happened.

Only things I think stayed local were photos and contacts.

A very strange error indeed.

If you lose connection all your data will remain on the device. Something other than a loss of connection has happened in your case.

That's why it would seem to be a very serious problem indeed.

Especially considering I couldn't get it to resync with iCloud despite logging out/in.

Only a hard reboot fixed it but all the data was still missing. Had to be resynchronised with iCloud.

Worst case would have been if iCloud too would have been wiped.

It kind of sounds like a maintenance issue on your Mac to me. Nothing really serious can go wrong if you keep your Mac maintained and backed up.

It's an iPhone SE and only a few months old.

Never had problems with it before.

Only thing I can think of is I have iOS 11 on another device using same iCloud.
