Problems downloading software

I recently had to get my MacBook fixed at my local Apple Store and in the process my hard drive was wiped and macOS Sierra V10.12.6 was installed. The computer works fine except for one thing, I was previously running a database software which was specifically designed for assessing certain data which I am interested in. Now when I come to try and load this software I get the following error message:

The operation couldn’t be completed. (com.apple.installer.pagecontroller error -1.)

Can anyone suggest a solution? My MacBook is unlocked to accept third party software but still no joy.

Did you check that software you are trying to install for compatibility with Sierra?
