list view in itunes

I am having issues getting the list view in the Recently Added column in my iTunes.  I have the latest version of iTunes.  I have googled the question and all the options listed don't seem to resolve the problem.  I used control J and it says there are no options.  I have no drop down menu under the search bar to pick from.  I have no 'list, grid' view options on my menu bar.  Please help.

The Recently Added section only displays as a grid. Use the Songs view to show in a list, and sort by date added descending to show something similar. It isn't quite so sophisticated as Recently Added is able to keep the tracks of an album together and in the right order which the Songs list won't do unless you are incredibly particular about the way you import your albums.
