How do I keep email marked "spam" out of smart ...

I've been able to set my preferences so that junk mail gets deleted immediately. But now, the problem is that any email marked "spam" are showing up in the two default smart mailboxes labeled "Today" and "This Week". The filtering rules only refer to dealing with "junk" email, but there are no options for selecting and filtering out emails marked "spam". They appear to be marked in the message header. But again, no options in rules to delete messages marked "spam." Any suggestions?

Thanks, but respectfully speaking, you didn't really answer my question.

I've read all the help guides and already know how to set up rules, use filters, etc. I use them extensively and have been for years. So please read the details of my message more carefully. Or better yet, try it yourself and you'll see that Apple has no provision for taking and removing emails already being filtered out as junk mail from the smart mailboxes "Today" and "This Week" that Mac Mail sets up as default smart mailboxes.

So while I've been able to successfully deal with junk mail in my regular email mailboxes, I'm at a loss as to how to do it for those two smart mailboxes.

Yeah, that's what I've been doing. Just wanted to know if anyone else had run into this same problem and had a good solution for it. Thanks for trying to help though, I appreciate your responses.

Would adding something like this help? Possibly change not in Junk to Trash?

If the Mac user has created smart mail boxes Mail for Mac: Use Smart Mailboxes to organize messages

The mails arrive in inbox are mirrored in smart mail boxes , inspite they are normal mails or spam and according to the article .

• Delete a Smart Mailbox: Select the Smart Mailbox in the Mail sidebar, then choose Mailbox > Delete Mailbox. The messages that were displayed in the Smart Mailbox aren’t deleted.

So , how to delete spam mails open mail application and its preferences select junk and check the box of perform custom actions ( click advanced to configure ) , click on advanced shown in the screen shot .

Do the settings accordingly shown as .

And click on ok , the spam mails will be deleted and even not shown in smart mail box .
