Mac Book Pro is Slow

I still need help with slow Macbook pro, early 2011, running Sierra 10.12.6, 16 gigs ram, 500Gig harddrive. I have uninstalled Avast software and a questionable Adobe cs5.5 software. ran a fix for "fixing a hacked /etc/hosts file by etresoft but nothing changed after rebooting and rerunning etre. below will be latest etre run.

Given it took over 10 minutes to run etrecheck I suspect that your hard drive may be failing. It may also be that you used some third party app like disk cleaner to "clean" your computer. This app may have removed some essential system or app files. I suggest reinstalling the operating system and testing again. If you are still experiencing issues after the reinstall then I think your hard drive is failing.

 

Make sure you get an external backup of your data before proceeding.

Backup your disk now, either with Time Machine or a clone. Your file system is corrupt. Boot into Recovery Mode and use Disk Utility > First Aid to repair the file system. Run it a few ties, until it reports that it is repaired or that it cannot be repaired.
