Fans going full power but little resources bein...
Hi all,
I'm a bit confused by something new that's come up with my Macbook Pro.
With very little activity, the computer gets very hot and the fans kick into high gear.
It's a Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
I got an app that monitors temp and fan speed (it's called Fanny). Even when I'm not doing much with the machine, it will quickly heat up to 60 degrees and both fans start going full power.
I have a very similarly spec backup Macbook Pro (slightly older, slower processor), with nearly the same programs that doesn't run nearly as hot.
The confusing thing to me, is that I don't have to be doing much for the fans to kick into high gear. When I check activity monitor, memory pressure is low, and nothing seems to be using excessive memory. For example, as I write this, fans are going full blast, computer is super hot, and the biggest Memory usage is kernel_task at just 1.5 Gb
I took it into an Apple store. They confirmed that it was running hot. They ran diagnostics and all came up normal. They opened it up and said there was a lot of dust inside, and that must have been the problem. They cleaned it out.
However, after returning home, I'm experiencing the same issue.
It's quite confusing for me... the issue doesn't seem to be some processor task run amuck, yet the computer is still running FAR hotter than my similar computer. The idea that it was dust inside preventing the fans from properly cooling made total sense for these symptoms, but I'm STILL having the issue after they cleaned it out. Any ideas on what I might look into to get to the bottom of this?
