Apple does not use that as a trade-up program, rather recycling. You generally would get more money for your device if you sold it outright, and then used the proceeds towards a new device. But that link will give you an idea what you could get.

You will get nothing!!!!  This renew and recycle program is a SCAM.  I received a quote of $100 on my perfect iPad.  Once I sent it in, the quote was changed to $0 ZERO!.  When I requested return, they kept the cover, case and charging cord.  I called to follow up and was told they threw them out.  Check the reviews of US.ReuseandRecycle@brightstarcorp.com.  Shame on you, Apple for using this company.  It's a rip off.

You won't get anything for a first generation iPad from Apple or any online recycle (gazelle, amazon). That device is too old and has zero recyclable value as far as the recyclers are concerned (they recycle for profit, remember that).

You can drop it off at any Apple Store, or other stores (BestBuy for example) that have free recycle drop off stations.  They will ensure it is properly and safely recycled for basic materials.

But the only items BrightStar, Apple's recycle partner will offer some money for are iPad 2 or never, or iPhone 4s or newer.  There is no money for them in the older items, so they don't offer you anything for them.
