iPad Air 2 rotation not working

Last week I bought an iPad Air 2, only to find that the orientation was not working. So I've returned it to the supplier for a refund. It was running the latest ios10.

Does anyone know if this problem will be present if I order a replacement, or should I source alternative tablets.

Hi. Have you tried turning off Reduce Motion in Settings > General > Accessibility? You should report it here https://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html and be sure to mention your specific device type.

Well. In my case everything works fine. have you tried basic troubleshooting steps?

Make sure you have rotation enabled.

If the screen doesn't rotate on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Take a look at this article:

Get help with hardware features on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

You can also try these steps: This won't delete your data stored on the phone.

  • Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button
  • Press and hold on the Home button
  • Keep holding both buttons until the display turns off and back on with Apple logo on it.

Alternatively, you may go to Settings - General - Reset - Reset All Settings

I tried various things; the one that seemed to work was to switch it on and off each time. However, I'm not prepared to accept this in a new product and I'm amazed that so many put up with this.  The rotation is a key feature and it's not good enough for Apple to suggest that this supposedly premium product is switched off and back on every time it happens.

If this is likely to be a one off then fair enough, but if it's a generic fault that is likely to be present if I reorder, then I'll consider something elsw.

Hi

In home screen swipe up to control panel check padlock is off.

Some apps don,t rotate .

Go to ibooks store download ipad user guide & ios 10 user guide .

Cheers

Brian

Hi. This random rotation lock with iOS 10 and iPad Air 2 has been reported by several other users. You should report your concern here https://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html. There's no way of knowing when this will be fixed. This is just a user forum, so you will not receive answers from "Apple" here.

Hi

The rotation lock was off. Nothing rotated, it wasn't specific apps.

Hi

To be honest I don't really expect much from Apple; even as an Apple fan, I accept that they have their limitations. Accepting glitches is one of their limitations.

I'll try reporting it.

Does anyone know if this problem exists with the pro.

I've had the same issue with my iPad Air 2. The iPad would stop rotating. I then would have to reset or restart it. By pure coincidence, one of the times this happened, I laughed the camera app. I was able to get the display rotating. Closing the app, the iPad was rotation was working again. I was able to use that the two latest occurences of that issue. Curious to know if anyone else get the same results.

Cheers

Hi - yes, I eventually discovered that fix. I returned the first iPad and bought another one. Exactly the same problem. Then I discovered the fix.

Pretty poor from Apple if you ask me. They put something in that causes a known problem but don't fix it, they ask the customer to disable one of the options.

Anyway, sorted now (well worked around it).   Sub standard Apple is still better than some other products but it's still disappointing to have so many issues on so called premium products.

Good. It turns out this is a rather old iPad Air 2 issue that has resurfaced in iOS 10.1.1. It may have something to do with exactly how the motion processor in that device interfaces to the accelerometers. Once they know about it, they should be able to fix it, again.

I've had my Air 2 for over a year and this has been an on again, off again issue. Now, a few days again it stopped working altogether. I've erased all content and settings twice and chatted with an Apple tech where they ran a scan of the device and it is still not working. Now, I have an appointment with a Best Buy Apple tech to see what's going on. I'll let you all know the outcome. iOS Ver. 10.3.3
