how do i go from ios 5.1.1 to 8.0

im trying to download some apps it says i need a newer ios

If you're on a first generation iPad, you can't; try downloading them to a computer or newer iOS device first.

If you're on an iPad 2 or 3, use the Software Update function to update it to 9.3.5.
