persistent flashing orange light on time capsule

Hello!  My Time Capsule randomly decided to start flashing it's orange light.  I use the TC for wifi rounter and as time capsule backup system for my computer hard drive.  Here's what I've done so far to fix the problem, but none of these have worked:

• Turned power on and off.
• Restarted modem.  Called internet provider to trouble shoot - no problems with modem on internet being provided. 
• Plugged ethernet cable from modem to laptop, which provided internet connection!  Updated software in Airport Utility (version 6.3.6).
• Airport Utility showed 3 problems:  ethernet not connected (but it actually is), no internet connection (duh), and something about DNS Server.  So, I opened up my System Preferences Network options and got my DNS Server numbers.  I put those numbers in the Airport Utility.  Didn't solve the problem.

Here is the main problem.

That means the TC is faulty. I am assuming you tested the same ethernet cord to the laptop as you used to the TC.. which proved the cord is fine.

Manually setting IP etc won't fix a problem that the TC is no longer connected at all.. i.e. ethernet is not working.

To troubleshoot further we need a bit of info.

1. What model is the modem? Is it also a router?

2. What model is the TC? If not latest AC model, look on the base and tell us the A1xxx number.

3. Anything older than 5 years is probably faulty.. but you can do a factory reset to be sure.

Factory reset universal

Power off the TC.. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall.. wait 10sec.. hold in the reset button.. be gentle.. power on again still holding in reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. Release the reset.. and wait a couple of min for the TC to reset and come back with factory settings. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. The reset is fairly fragile in these.. press it so you feel it just click and no more.. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. I use a toothpick as tool.

N.B. None of your files on the hard disk of the TC are deleted.. this simply clears out the router settings of the TC.
