How do I Put Back Time Machine backups from the...

I accidentally put my main Time Machine backup folder in the trash. It went in the trash fine, but when I try to put it back, I get the message that I can't modify backup items. I want to put back the folder on the Time Machine disk so it is the way it was. I don't want to delete it. I  don't want a particular backup. I want to put back the entire folder so Time Machine operates as before and the full timeline of backups is there. Sometimes I get the message that I need Administrator access to do this, but if I click Authenticate, I get the same message as before. If I had permission to put this folder in the trash, it seems there must be a way to take it out of the trash. How do I Put Back the Time Machine main folder from the Trash? Thank you.
