iPad Pro 10.5 worse at dictation than an iPhone...

The iPad Pro 10.5 seems worse at dictation than an iPhone 7 plus, any ideas why that would be?

How I tested:

• Removed cases from devices, ensured clear path to microphones.
• Recorded a .wav sample to playback to the two devices from an independent source.  This was to eliminate any variation in a person's voice across multiple tests.
• Both the iPad and iPhone microphones were about three inches away from the test audio source.

The iPad Pro 10.5 is consistently worse in these tests, even though it has a dual mic setup which appears to be the same as the iPhone 7 plus. I speak pretty neutrally, without an accent.

Can anyone suggest what the problem might be?

Is it correct that dictation performance and quality is supposed to be about the same between iPad and iPhone, all else being equal?
