ipad owner is deceased

Recently my father-in-law passed away.  I was given his iPad mini.  It wasn't in his will who it was to go to, so when the family was going through his things the iPad was given to me.

He also has a Macbook as well as a 4S cell phone which the new owner has already factory reset and they can't get access to it either.  Prior to doing a factory re-set they unlinked it but it didn't work.

If I were to take it in to an Apple store with a copy of the death certificate will that be enough documentation to get the to unlock to iPad?  There is no original bill of sale, he never kept anything.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

All you can do is take it into Apple with whatever documentation you have. We fellow users cannot speak for what Apple may be able to do (or not, as the case may be). The only way to get an actual answer is go to Apple and see what they say.

Sorry for your loss, it’s always sad to lose someone in your family.
