Apple Watch Activity is not in the cloud?
So I have been using an Apple Watch for a while and my number one issue is that "Activity" I've collected for the last year is not sync to the iCloud, So when I upgraded my iPhone 6 to iOS10 all my watch Activity is gone. I've tested this out over the last week and it seems that "Activity" app does not sync your data to the cloud, so if you lose your phone or watch you have to start all over and past data is lost. This seems like a huge concern when i spend all that time tracking my overall and progress. Anyone else see this happening if you upgrade or restart/reset your watch or phone?
Hi
Historic Health and Activity data is stored on your iPhone. It is not saved separately to iCloud.
To guard against the loss of this data, be sure to make regular backups of your iPhone.
If backing up via iTunes, ensure that you select the option to Encrypt iPhone backup (unencrypted backups exclude sensitive data, including Health and Activity). iCloud backups are encrypted as standard.

I backed up my entire iphone before the upgrade, however on iOS10.2 when my phone turned on all my activity was gone, I can't restore from a backup now because my phone is on 10 and will not downgrade to 9, and if i do that my 3.0 watch will not work... and there is no rolling back your watch.
You backed it up how, exactly? If you backed it up to iTunes and the backup was not encrypted, then the data you're looking for was NOT backed up.
This is not new.
i did a iCLoud backup before i upgraded. I see my backup when my phone restarted and it promped me if i would like to restore from that last back up, I hit yes, then i get a message saying you are currently on a newer version of iOS and this backup is not supported. the whole things seems like a crap shoot to me.
It is not normally necessary to restore from a backup when updating iOS:

Thanks Jonathon.
Can I ask why activity data does not have a cloud backup option? Sounds like a good idea. Not sure why it hasn’t been done already?
Thanks
Joe
Under iOS 11.x, Health data on your iPhone (including historic Activity data from Apple Watch) can be synced / backed up automatically to iCloud.
- On your iPhone, go to: Settings > tap on your name at the top > iCloud - turn on Health.
Thanks again Jonathan, it looks like I did not backup my health figures to the cloud before installing onto a new phone.
