Usage time increase on iPhone with Apple Watch ...
For the last 4 months or so I have been having a very strange problem between my iphone and apple watch which I still haven't been able to narrow down.
When my apple watch is paired with my iPhone the devices usage time will increase much faster than if it is unpaired, and the iPhone is in standby. I noticed this when trying to diagnose a different issue with the iPhone (battery jumping) and recently had the iPhone replaced which resolved that issue but the problem with usage times continues. as an example I have tested the device with the apple watch paired and locked for 15 minutes, I would come back and its usage would have increased by 4 minutes. When the watch is unpaired, the usage time on the phone would not increase. This inflates so much that over a 24 hour period yesterday my usage was 7 hours although the total of all apps used was 3 hours 30 minutes. When I received my replacement phone i used the device without the watch for a few days, and did the same test and the overall usage equaled app usage.
I currently have every setting I can possibly think of switched off to make sure it isn't these features, such as background app refresh, location services, no profiles installed from work etc. I have also not included any 3rd party apps on the watch. I am going to pair the watch with my old iphone 6 to see if the issue persists, but I don't have high hopes considering this issue persisted before the iPhone 7 was replaced.
If anyone has any idea what might be causing this and a possible resolution I would appreciate it greatly!
Hi
Once it has been paired to your iPhone, your Apple Watch remains permanently paired to it until such time as you manually unpair it (such as via the Watch app).
Whilst remaining permanently paired, it can be normal for your Apple Watch and iPhone to become disconnected from time to time, such as when they are taken out of Bluetooth range of each other.
Whilst connected, it is normal for your Apple Watch and iPhone to communicate with each other in the background, including - for example - in order to sync Activity and Health data to the Health app on your iPhone.
For the best performance from your iPhone and Apple Watch, including the most power-efficient communication between them, Apple recommends keeping both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi permanently enabled on your iPhone.
