Macbook Pro firmware question

Mid 2010 running Sierra, I have an app that has an upgrade, it's music software. App installs but when I go to open it it hangs. Then started in  target disk mode using my desktop. When I open the Macbook Pro drive on my desktop and then open the app it opens fine. That tells me that is not my MBP drive so since the MBP works fine I'm thinking its a firmware update. I went to the download page and found my model, downloaded the dmg but it will not install because it says I have to have 10.9 and I have 10.12.

any help ?

Hi,

First, try downloading the app again, it may be corrupt. Do it while booted into Safe Mode (boot while holding down the shift key). I haven't used TDM for awhile, but it used to be that the Mac which HD showed up on the other Mac would use that Mac's apps to open files. I don't know if it's still that way, but if you don't have that app on the desktop Mac, that shoots that idea. If you do, that may be what's happening, so there could be something wrong with the app on your MBP.

I don't think it's a firmware upgrade, as they're usually built into later OSes if you don't have them already installed.
