lost songs

My nano seemed to be missing half of my songs, so using the steps I tunes gave me to get them all to synch I lost 75% of my songs.  How can I recover my lost libraries?

Syncing your iPod somehow erased content from your computer?

That is very odd.

If that is the case then you would need to restore your content from your backup copy of your computer, or you could re download the iTunes purchases
