orginal apple watch with new os issue

After installing the new ios on both phone (7 Plus) and watch (Original Series), I am having trouble listening to my playlist on watch while also using activity for running - the apple music app on watch seems unable to connect to my Bluetooth headphones (SMS Sync 50) that have worked fine for the past 1-2 years.  If I check the setting app on the phone the headphones appear connected, but the music app tries to reconnect unsuccessfully.  In addition, the entire watch seems less responsive and very slow as well now.  Thanks in advance for any suggestions to help resolve!
