Messages Frozen and not working correctly

I am using Messages on my Mac and it is frozen, I can scroll through conversations easily, but other tasks (i.e. new messages, typing messages, etc) is frozen and shows the same screen from when I open the app! What do I do?

I understand that the Messages application on your MacBook is unresponsive.  Try forcing the Messages application to quit, restart the application and test to see if the behavior persists.

Allen, to clarify the app opens fine but it doesn't function correctly (it scrolls to the left fine, but the message is not working.

And also this didn't help at all! The app it self opens and closes fine, but the window doesn't respond and is just frozen on one screen.

Since you are still having this issue, we would like you to test in safe mode to see if you get the same result. Safe mode (sometimes called safe boot) is a way to start up your Mac so that it performs certain checks and prevents some software from automatically loading or opening. This can help see if anything running in the background is causing a conflict.
