Dock button of Watch Series 2 makes inconsisten...
Hi everyone,
I received my first Apple Watch today. It's a stainless steel Series 2 model. The Digital Crown feels high quality when pressed and makes a pleasant silent sound. However, the Dock Button makes a different, louder sound varying where and how the button is pressed. It feels and sounds cheap.
I recorded the sounds produced by the two buttons using my iPhone. The first two clicks are the Digital Crown being pressed. ********
I don't recall Generation 1 demo units making such noise. I also checked with a Generation 1 owner whether the Dock Button of his Watch makes such noises. It doesn't.
Any Series 2 owners around here who can report that their Dock Button just sounds like the Digital Crown when pressed? I just want to check if this is indeed a defect before contacting Apple to arrange a replacement tomorrow. (I'm from Europe, customer care already seems to be closed for today)
Kind regards,
Philip
<Link Edited by Host>Hi, I experience exactly the same with a Aluminium Series 2 as you:
"Digital Crown feels high quality when pressed and makes a pleasant silent sound. However, the Dock Button makes a different, louder sound varying where and how the button is pressed. It feels and sounds cheap."
Therefore my question:
Did you contact Apple and what did they say? Did you return it and get a new one? And if so, with the same problem?
I also have to say this "clicky" noise is not in line with the quality Apple is always highlighting (and charging with the high prices). But I also didn't read a lot of complaints on the Internet regarding this "clicky" noise (found only two beside yours). Therefore I'm questioning myself if it is only a problem with some of the watches (like yours and mine) or is a general thing and has to be accepted.
Thanks for your reply
Michael
Same loud click happens on many of the series 3 watches. We had a couple of stainless steel 38mm series 3 LTE watches and had to return one because the click was so loud. It sounds broken to me. An informal test at the Apple store makes me think that perhaps it’s more likely to occur on stainless steel models and perhaps also on the 38mm size. However, it was present on some 42mm aluminum models, so there isn’t consistency. Very odd given that Apple products have clicks that typically feel and sound great.
