iPad notes app goes crazy sends multiple copies...

This is on iPad 4. The Mail app was clogged with the emails. It was up to 345 MB. I did all the stuff to get rid of that. Deleting the emails on the web servers. Signing out of iCloud. Deleting the email accounts from the iPad. And deleting the mail app. That works great. I was going to get a different mail app. The one I looked at, Spark the text is too small. So I added back the stock mail app. SMH.

I decided  to prevent a recurrence I would delete the emails every day, since most of my emails are not personal and I don't need to save them. In the course of doing that in the first hour after adding the stock mail app I discover there are multiple copies of old including deleted notes from the Notes app. What on earth? So I laboriously delete all of them. There were 71. A few minutes later I check back and they're there again! This is both very annoying but also disturbing. The unseen inner workings of my iPad are doing bizarre things I didn't ask it to do. I really would like to get this fixed. While I understand that mail on iPad is designed to have a bazillion emails in it so that you can search them, this business of previously deleted notes coming back like vomit and being stored in multiple copies in the mail app is certainly not what it was designed to do.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. And yes I can get different note and mail apps. But they all have things wrong with them too. The notes app to use is very pleasant.

PS the Notes app was at one time connected to my Gmail account. And not by me either which is probably how this mess started. But I undid all of that over six months ago. When I added my Gmail account back to the Mail app today it had notes connected to it in settings and I immediately turned it off.
