how can I get more flash storage on my Mac Book...

I have a Mac book Air from late 2014.  I bought a mac with only 121 GB of flash storage.  I received a message that my storage is almost full--only 3.02 GB free.  I am running OS X Yosemite.  I read that if I was running Sierra it has an automatic clean up of unused files, etc and stores on iCloud--I pay $9.99 to Apple for I Cloud. I read there are apps you can get that will do this but I am afraid to get a virus.  The only thing I know to do is just delete a lot of pictures and music, plus what is "other" 27GB of my flash storage? What can I do?
